Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar unveiled the schedule for the General Elections 2024, set to unfold in seven phases starting from April 19 and concluding on June 1.

The counting of votes will take place on June 4. Notably, assembly polls for Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Odisha are scheduled for specific dates in May.

Early voting for these states ( May 13 and April 19)

In a significant departure from previous practices, the Election Commission revealed that the polls will not be synchronized across all states, with different regions going to the polls on various dates.

Among the states slated for early voting are Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Odisha, with elections scheduled for May 13 and April 19, respectively.

97 crore individuals are eligible for vote

An estimated 97 crore individuals are eligible to cast their votes in this democratic exercise. Notably, voters above the age of 85 will have the option to vote from the comfort of their homes.

The Election Commission emphasized its commitment to ensuring essential amenities such as drinking water and sanitation facilities at all polling stations.

BJP secured 303 seats in parliament

In the previous parliamentary polls, the BJP secured a substantial victory with 303 seats, setting the stage for their bid for a third consecutive term. Opposition parties, notably the Congress, face the challenge of halting BJP’s momentum.

As the world’s largest democratic exercise unfolds, India braces for a politically charged period, with over 97 crore voters poised to shape the country’s future.
